Dusty Iguanas & Peeling Stucco Walls - Isla Mujeres

An occasional moped scooter, gas powered golf cart or tiny red taxi zoomed by as I wandered along the road that hugged the shoreline of the gorgeous Caribbean. I have visited Isla Mujeres numerous times before, and this day I wanted to see it on foot. The slower pace of walking allowed me to really see how the colors of this magical place are all woven together so perfectly. And, I couldn’t help but notice the beauty of this island palette.

Isla Mujeres means Island of the Women. When the Spanish arrived in the 16th century, they named it isla Mujeres because they found so many images of women and goddesses. The island is about 8 miles from Cancun and is accessible by boat.

A popular destination for sport fisherman, its waters are well known for beautiful sailfish. Avid fishermen and gorgeous boats from all over the world find their way to this small paradise.

The food on this island is ART. The little restaurants have open air seating with eclectic furniture and delightful menus. As you sit, you are served the most refreshing drinks and fresh food including guacamole and seafood crafted into incredibly delicious dishes. Three of the restaurants that I have fallen in love with are mentioned at the bottom of the blog. Delicioso and exquisto!

I hope you enjoy your colorful island tour. Please scroll down and leave a comment if you have ever heard of this special island. : )
