Greece: Moscow Mules with a Splash of Acropolis

Cheers to Us - Dinner Overlooking the Acropolis

Santorini: everything they say about you is true.

Plus, you have my favorite color palette perfected. The most gorgeous blues, crisp whites, and tiny splashes of pink and more.

Athens: I love your rich history and bustling city streets. Yet, it’s easy to step off and enjoy a quiet sidewalk cafe.

My husband, daughter and I recently visited Athens and Santorini. The people of Greece are so kind and Santorini lives up to its reputation. We loved every minute of being in this special country.

TRAVEL TIPS: Pack in a rolling carry on plus backpack, bring washcloths and don’t use an American flat iron with an adaptor. Trust me on this one.

Acropolis

Lunch Date in Athens

We did a fun tour of the Acropolis with the most beautiful and charming guide (who to my amazement hand rolled and smoked a cigarette during our outside break.) She explained that the ancient Greeks really admired red hair and felt it was so special. They painted red hair on many of their sculptures. It’s fun traveling with royalty. Thanks Shelby!

We ate Greek salads everywhere we went. We had sparkly cocktails and the best dinner over looking the Acropolis at night. And, we watched Mamma Mia on Netflix the first evening - to get our week started on the right foot.

Shelby is Santorini Sunshine

We flew from Athens to Santorini (Aegean Airlines) and stayed in Oia - an adorable town in west Santorini. We loved walking the narrow, winding streets with only pedestrians and occasional donkeys. The shops and merchandise were stunning and the shopkeepers were so welcoming. Oia - you have our hearts.

How amazing is this!

Santorini has its own working art gallery. The artist, Dimitro Kolioussis, was not there. But, his son was and he proudly talked with us about his father’s icon art and techniques. He prefers using the classical technique of egg yolk and powder pigments. He also uses oil paint. His gold leaf application is inspirational and I loved learning that he applies wax over his gold leaf for as a top coat. No photos were allowed in the gallery but it was filled with amazing religious art, deep rich oil paint, and perfectly applied gold leaf painted on a variety of old doors and more.

Santorini Sunset Cruise - A Trip Highlight

We did the touristy Santorini Sunset dinner cruise and it was completely worth it. A bus picked us up in Santorini and brought us to the marina. We were served wine and a Greek dinner as we cruised and watched the sunset. And, pretty much everyone on the cruise had an interesting personality and story. 10/10 would recommend.
